Csukrán Mihály lives in Újfehértó, Szabolcs county. Thirty years ago he was a boxing champion, but he quickly made it back to his home village, due to drinking and brawling. He used his pension money to support his poor parents. Despite living in poverty, he set up four Guinness records. Among others, he ran the Marathon 700 times. Angered by the press always boasting about some French runner, Mihály decided he can also do it – running backwards while doing jumps with a rubber band. The local kids ran after him, laughing at first, but then, they suddenly began grasping for air, trying to catch up with the „old man”. After a while, the whole village was running backwards while doing rope-jumps.
Then, Mihály built a gym on his parents’ old lot. This is the world’s strangest gym: walls made out of wires, ceiling out of tin plates. Despite being on the edge of falling down, it’s full of people every afternoon. In this „cage” the youngesters play football, raise weights, or do other kinds of exercising – „first-class training” according to Uncle Misi. These hard-fate teenagers are trying to get out of poverty and build a brighter future for themselves with the help of their trainer, Mihály.

ZSIGMOND Dezső

Dezső Zsigmond was borin in Gyöngyös in 1956. He is currently living in Budapest. He is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2006.
Mr. Zsigmond directed several feature and documentary films, often dealing with the life of rural Hungary and Hungarian minorities in neighboring countries. His films often mix together fiction and reality – a sort of magic realism, erasing the bounderies of fantasy and reality.
